AMATEUR NIGHT FACEBOOK PAGE
Amateur comedy night will be held once a month on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. There will be a $5 cover for audience members.
The sign-in list to perform opens at 6:30 p.m., so be here around that time to make sure you're signed up. This club operates different then others in the sense that not everyone who comes to the club gets to perform. We like to give comedians a longer segment on stage in order to use them to help develop the success of the night, and in order to do that the amateur list has to be capped around 10 comics.
Priority for getting on the list is first given to working professionals, then to regular open mic performers, and then to new performers who have paying audience members in the crowd to see them. The best way to guarantee that you perform is to bring an audience who wants to see you. If you do not get up on stage one show; come to the next show to get a spot.
Stage time is very valuable, so take advantage of it. Come prepared with roughly five to seven minutes of material. You will get a light at six minutes, which means "wrap up your set." Never feel that you must fill the entire time. During your first few trips to the stage, it is best to keep it tight and to the point.
The owners of Hecklers decides who performs, and makes all changes to the list of performers.
Quick list of tips to remember for new comics at the Hecklers Comedy Club Open Mic:
* Keep the extreme vulgarity (F***, C***, P****, etc) to a minimum
* When your time is almost up, a yellow light will go on. When this happens, wrap up your set. If you do not get off a red light will go on. If you do not wrap it up in one minute, we will embarrass the shit our of you and turn the mic
off.
* Do not "ride the light"; This means that when your time is up, you wrap up your current joke and get off stage.
* Being nervous is common. That's what makes stand-up comedy fun.
* Do not drop the Mic.
* Avoid picking on audience members.
Jason Lamb from the Zone will be the MC and there will be one headliner also.
